The same disgust that once told us we were wrong is the disgust coming for them. Stand with trans people, or side with the shame that still lives in your chest.
I have a blazer full of badges. But experience has taught me that the right people stay when you start saying what actually matters. Losing the rest just means youβre finally being heard clearly. π€
Thank you very very much for this passionate and clear reminder of the structures that encourage us to separate ourselves from the targeted, the same way people separated themselves from us when we were the targets in school. The storm of resentful rage is actually targeting all of us whether we admit it or not.
When gay men were being killed by the AIDS epidemic it was trans folks and bi folks and lesbians who stood by us. Gay men arenβt the primary target now, so this is our chance to pay back our debt by supporting our queer siblings (particularly Black and Latin people, those who are undocumented or unhoused).
And by fighting to protect the main targets we stop the juggernaut before it turns on us full force. We got this!
Beautifully said Ed. That memory of who showed up for us during the worst of it should guide everything now. Solidarity isnβt nostalgia. Itβs survival. π
If you lose any subscribers from this, Iβd take it as a badge of truth/proof.
